OPTOWL FL-CC-5M Series High-Resolution Machine Vision Lenses for 2/3" Sensors – 3.45 µm

The OPTOWL FL-CC-5M lens series, originally developed by RICOH, is designed for industrial machine vision cameras with 2/3" sensors up to 5 megapixels and a pixel size of 3.45 µm. The series combines high optical resolution with a fast optical design and robust mechanical construction for use in industrial inspection systems.

The lenses provide an optical resolution of up to 140 lp/mm from the image centre to the edges, with high contrast and limited reduction in image sharpness towards the corners. This makes them suitable for inspection, pattern recognition, positioning and measurement applications where small details must be reliably captured across the entire image field.

The series is available with focal lengths of 8 mm, 16 mm and 25 mm. All versions feature a C-mount, a manually adjustable aperture from F1.4 to F16 and a minimum object distance of 100 mm.

High resolution across the entire image

The optical design is optimised for the resolution of modern 5 megapixel cameras with 2/3" sensors. With support for a pixel pitch of 3.45 µm and an optical resolving power of up to 140 lp/mm, fine structures, small components and product details can be reproduced with high contrast. Image quality is also well maintained towards the edges of the sensor, which is important for inspections that use the entire field of view.

Low distortion for measurement applications

The FL-CC1614-5M and FL-CC2514-5M are designed for applications where low geometric distortion is important. With optical distortion of no more than 1%, these lenses are suitable for industrial dimensional inspection, positioning and image processing applications where the geometry of the captured object must be represented as accurately as possible. The 8 mm version provides a wider field of view but has higher optical distortion, making it less suitable for accurate geometric measurements without additional calibration.

Thanks to the fast F1.4 aperture, relatively short exposure times are possible when sufficient illumination is available. The optical design also provides good light distribution across the image field. This is particularly beneficial when inspecting moving products or in applications where the available light intensity is limited. Focus can be adjusted manually to the required working distance and then mechanically secured.

Compact industrial design

The 16 mm and 25 mm versions have a compact Ø43 mm housing, making them easy to combine with industrial cameras with a housing width of approximately 44 mm. Due to its optical design, the 8 mm wide-angle version has a larger diameter of 60.8 mm. All three lenses feature a robust metal housing and a standard C-mount for integration into existing machine vision systems.

The optical construction limits the reduction in light intensity towards the edges of the sensor, maintaining sufficient brightness and contrast outside the image centre. Combined with the fast aperture, this makes the lenses suitable for inspecting electronic components, printed circuit boards, mechanical parts and other industrial products.

The focus and iris settings can be mechanically secured using locking screws. This prevents unwanted adjustments caused by vibration or during operation in industrial environments. The combination of high resolution, compact dimensions and mechanical stability makes the FL-CC-5M series suitable for both new machine vision systems and the replacement of existing lenses.
