Line Scan Lighting
Line scan lighting is used in machine vision systems with line scan cameras, where illumination must be uniform and continuous across the entire scan line. Unlike area scan systems, image formation depends on object movement, meaning light intensity and exposure must be matched to line rate and conveyor speed. In practice, this requires stable illumination that remains consistent over time and across the full inspection width.
The performance depends on light uniformity in both spatial and temporal domains; intensity fluctuations or non-uniformity directly translate into line artifacts in the image. A common mistake is using standard lighting without considering motion, resulting in uneven brightness or insufficient signal at high speeds. The interaction between illumination intensity, exposure time, and sensor sensitivity becomes critical, especially in high-speed applications.
Line scan lighting is widely used for web inspection, conveyor-based inspection, and continuous production processes. In combination with an appropriate line scan camera and optics, it enables consistent imaging over large widths, where selection depends on scan width, speed, and required resolution. Our lighting solutions for line scan applications provide high intensity, stable output, and uniform distribution across the entire line.
