Kowa

Kowa lenses are used in industrial machine vision systems where sensor size, resolution, working distance and field of view must match reliably. A good camera image is not created by the camera alone. The lens determines whether the relevant feature is projected onto the sensor with enough sharpness and contrast. If the lens does not match the pixel size, field of view or required detail size, a higher camera resolution will add little reliability in practice.

The Kowa range includes C-mount lenses for multi-megapixel cameras, lenses for larger sensors, telecentric lenses and compact S-mount optics. The right choice depends strongly on the application. Field of view, working distance, smallest detectable defect, sensor format and acceptable distortion must be evaluated together. In production, it often becomes clear during commissioning whether a lens has enough margin for sharpness, edge performance and repeatability.

For machine vision applications, Kowa lenses are especially relevant for quality inspection, measurement, positioning and surface inspection. IR-corrected versions can be useful when infrared illumination is used or when lighting conditions change between daylight and artificial light. For precise measurement tasks or small defects, the lens should always be selected together with the camera, illumination and mechanical mounting.

If these parameters do not fit together, the result can be soft image edges, insufficient detail resolution or measurement errors that can only be corrected by software to a limited extent.
