A camera is not yet a vision solution

In a new vision project, the camera is often the first component to be considered. The number of megapixels, interface and price are easy to compare. However, the reliability of an application depends on the complete combination of camera, sensor, lens, lighting, triggering, mounting and software.

The smallest relevant detail must be sufficiently visible in the image. The lens must match the sensor, Field of View and available working distance. The lighting must create sufficient contrast. For moving products, lighting, exposure time and triggering must work together to prevent motion blur.

A machine vision project should therefore not start with a part number, but with the application:

  • What must be detected, measured, read or positioned?

  • What is the required Field of View?

  • What is the smallest relevant detail?

  • Does the product move during image acquisition?

  • Which product variations and reflections can occur?

  • What cycle time must be achieved?

  • How will the system communicate with the PLC, robot or machine controller?

Only when these requirements are clear can the camera, lens, lighting and software be selected properly.

Not an ordinary webshop

Machine Vision Shop was built on our daily experience with industrial machine vision. We are not a general webshop that happens to sell cameras and lenses.

Our webshop offers industrial machine vision cameras, machine vision lenses, machine vision lighting, software, vision systems, edge systems, filters, mounting solutions and accessories. Prices and technical information are shown directly wherever possible. This allows engineers to compare products, order components or assemble an initial test setup independently.

For specific product questions, we can provide information about specifications and compatibility. This may include matching a camera and lens, selecting the correct interface cable or checking the capabilities of a lighting controller.

Assessing a complete application usually requires more detailed investigation. When calculations, test images or application research are required, we can define the necessary work in advance and provide a separate technical proposal.

Working with specialised suppliers

Machine vision technology continues to develop rapidly. New sensors, interfaces, embedded systems, software platforms and AI solutions are introduced continuously. We therefore work closely with specialised manufacturers and suppliers within our portfolio.

We combine our practical application experience with the detailed product knowledge of these manufacturers. For specific product questions, we can consult directly with their product managers, developers and application engineers.

This gives our customers a single point of contact supported by a broader technical network. It allows us not only to supply a product, but also to verify whether different components are technically compatible.

Build and test in-house

For machine builders, integrators and startups, an in-house test setup is often a good first step. It can be used to evaluate products, compare different lighting methods and develop software before the final machine design is completed.

Machine Vision Shop supplies individual components as well as starter sets and test setups for 2D, 3D and AI applications. You remain in control of the software, system architecture and integration.

This approach suits organisations that already have machine vision knowledge or deliberately want to build this knowledge in-house. You can start with a small setup, test the application step by step and select the final machine hardware afterwards.

Build knowledge with Machine Vision Academy

Organisations that intend to use machine vision regularly need the necessary knowledge within their own engineering team. Through Machine Vision Academy, we provide practical training for engineers and technicians.

Our training courses cover more than the operation of a software platform. We also address the technical principles behind a reliable application:

  • Field of View and pixel resolution;

  • camera and sensor selection;

  • lens selection and working distance;

  • lighting and contrast;

  • exposure time and motion blur;

  • triggering and digital I/O;

  • communication with a PLC or machine controller;

  • building and testing an inspection application.

The objective is to enable participants to develop, test and modify basic vision applications independently. They also learn to recognise when an application requires additional research or specialist support.
